The Takahashi Epsilon 160-ED is an ultra-fast widefield astrograph with a flat-field design for serious astrophotography. Featuring a hyperbolic primary mirror and integrated corrector, the Epsilon 160ED provides exceptional correction over a 44mm image circle.
Based on the original innovative Epsilon design from 1984, this new version has significant improvements for the demands of imaging with modern CMOS cameras. A newly designed corrector using the finest ED lenses optimally corrects for aberrations, resulting in diffraction-limited pinpoint stars of 3 microns RMS at the edge of the field.
The optimisation of the optical design means that compared with the original version, the new Epsilon 160ED has 2/3 the distortion at only 0.3% - comparable to that of a Takahashi TOA refractor (at 0.2%). This makes stitching mosaics and astrometric reduction far simpler.
The Epsilon 160ED is equipped with a precise rack and pinion focuser with camera angle adjuster for easy framing of targets. The Epsilon 160ED has a native focal length of 530mm and a focal ratio of f/3.3, making it the perfect instrument for imaging of large nebulae and star clusters.
Despite its photographic focus, the Epsilon doubles as an exceptional wide-field visual telescope, thanks to its fine optical correction. Collimation is straightforward with markings on each mirror and the included collimation eyepiece, allowing adjustment during the daytime.
Note: The OTA ONLY variant does not include tube rings or a dovetail bar. For the Epsilon 160ED, please contact us to discuss an appropriate mounting solution.
