Dovetail saddles are essential components for connecting telescope optical tube assemblies to mounts, as well as for attaching accessories such as guide scopes and control units.

There are two different styles of dovetail bar - Vixen V-style or Losmandy D-style. Vixen V-style bars have a width of approximately 43mm, whereas Losmandy D-style bars are much wider at around 73.8mm.

Typically, smaller telescopes come with Vixen dovetail bars, whereas larger scopes benefit from the more stable Losmandy style bars. Many dovetail saddles are designed to take both styles of bar.
